Everything to come on season 2

Catherine (played by Elle Fanning) and Leo (played by Sebastian de Souza)

Yes, there will be spoilers.

The Great is a dramatic and comedic satire loosely based on the lives of Catherine The Great and Peter III. Hulu reps would call it “anti-historical” and one of last year’s top performing comedies on the service. Set during 18th century Russia, a young and native Catherine on her way to meet her beloved Prince. Unfortunately, this is far from a Disney fairytale and Catherine learns that the hard way.

Real Life, Catherine & Peter

The show’s premise shows Catherine and Peter during their years of marriage. Historically, they go through 18 years of marriage before Catherine hailed the crown. The show choose to be more witty than accurate which works well. Watchers are focus on Catherine’s POV of events which is greatly played by Elle Fanning. What’s more interesting is Peter’s character. Nickolas Hoult does a fantastic job (as always) fleshing out Peter’s character. Sadly for Catherine, he’s still a spoiled man-child.

In Catherine’s words;

I’m married to an idiot

Yeah, she is sort of right.

He can be rude, pervy, and cruel at times.

Remember when Catherine tries to set up a school for girls then Peter burns it down. In his own words:

“Women are for seeding, not reading.”

Other times, he is the life of the party; drinking and joking with everyone in the room. Like in this iconic scene.

You never know which Peter you are going to see next. At least, Catherine tries to get along with Peter but we already know how this turns out. The on- screen chemistry between Hoult and Fanning is spectacular. The character’s dialogue can be bizarre sometimes but that’s what makes great scenes.

Catherine (Fanning) and Peter (Hoult) entering the throne room

Hulu announced that The Great will be renewed for a second season. Last week, a season teaser was released. *Spoiler alert: No, she didn’t f**** a horse but would rather chock on a piece of chicken.

Ok, a lot to unpack in these 45 seconds. You see Catherine entering a room then next frame she’s sitting in front of Peter pregnant. The witty banter between them is as spiteful as ever. The rest of the clip is nothing but guns, wine, and pure chaos. See for yourselves.

Did you finish watching?

I LOVE that You see that. Season 2 officially premieres on Hulu November 19th.
